...lemon squeezy

I remember when I was a kid in the 70's (yes I am that old!) that it was quite popular to have motivational slogans on posters. The start of the new schoolyear always brought excitement about just who your teacher was going to be. I remember walking to the school every morning to look to see if the class list has been posted on the office window yet, such excitement! But back to the posters- These would line the walls of our classrooms at the start of every new year and there is one that somehow stuck in my brain and meant something to me. Maybe it was because I did not have what would be described as an idyllic childhood, or perhaps because it had a certain poetic justice type quality to it. Regardless, this slogan and it's bright yellow poster have been part of my internal life since grade school.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Well, I have a bunch of "lemons".

My husband has a job offer somewhere far, far away.
So far it is on the other side of the world far.
So far that you can either head west OR east to get there.
Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), India far.
We should be leaving at the beginning of January.

Now, I won't even launch into the issues that relate to knitting things like sweaters and socks in a tropical climate. I won't mention that I have not been able to find a yarn store thus far in the city we are moving to. It doesn't matter. We are going. It will be challenging, stressful, exciting, alien, interesting, colorful, hot, lonely, and hopefully a little fun.

Luckily I like Lemonade. :)

Sounds like an adventure!

The only I can think of whenever I see a motivational poster is this company.

You are going to be very missed. Besides, who is going to offer a margarita to the winner of the sock races?

Wow, that is amazing. How long will you be there? I'm sure I'll be making a trip to India in 2008 and I would be happy to be your drug...um...I mean yarn supplier.

I like lemonade, but I will still miss you! :) I hope you have fun in India.

Wow. I wasn't expecting that from the title of your post. It will be quite an adventure! Thank goodness for the internet and blogging. You will be missed dearly, but at least we'll be able to keep in touch across the miles.

Wow Cindy! Is that how you found my blog? My mom-in-law is an avid knitter, and you guessed it, she lives in Bangalore! There's lots of wool available in Bangalore, not to worry. I don't think there is a big Michael's kind of a store, but there are lots and lots of arts and crafts stores that stock yarn and other knitting materials. And if you're worried about the weather, why not try crocheting silk yarn, instead! That would be truly be lovely lemonade.

If I can be of any help at all, don't hesitate to ask.

That sounds exciting! And a little terrifying at the same time. You will keep blogging about the adventure, right?

And as for knitting, luckily there will be silk for your Lemonade, as sujatha said.

It can only be an adventure! You'll still be here, in blogland, right? We can always get you some yarn.

Omigod, omigod, that's a bit of a shock! But firstly, as Pikku-kettu and Margene said, you'll still be right here where you always were, won't you? In Blogland with the rest of your friends. And look, Sujatha is already checking out yarn stores for you! Certainly think silk and cotton, not wool. And I'll come see you.

Er - you will be keeping up with the socks, won't you? In cotton of course...
